WebUtils – Privacy Policy

Overview

WebUtils is a Chrome extension that provides utility tools (QR Code Generator, Color Picker, Unit Converter, and more) directly in the Chrome Side Panel. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

WebUtils collects no personal data. Specifically:

• We do not collect names, email addresses, or any identifying information.
• We do not track browsing history or visited URLs.
• We do not use cookies or tracking pixels.
• We do not transmit any data to our servers.

Data Stored Locally

Some tools store preferences and history locally on your device using chrome.storage.local and localStorage:

• Favorites – which tools you have starred.
• Settings – theme (light/dark/system) and language preference.
• Color history – up to 10 recently picked colors (Color Picker tool).
• Emoji history – recently used emojis (Emoji Search tool).
• Quick Notes – note content you write (stored locally only).
• Currency cache – exchange rates cached for up to 1 hour to reduce API calls.
• Unit Converter favorites – your saved conversion pairs.

All of this data stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.

Third-Party Services

The Unit Converter and Exchange Rate tools fetch live currency data from:

• Frankfurter.app – a free, open-source exchange rate API. No personal data is sent; only a standard HTTP request for rate data is made.

No other third-party services, analytics, or advertising networks are used.

Permissions Used

• sidePanel – to display the extension in Chrome's Side Panel.
• storage – to save your settings and tool data locally.
• clipboardWrite – to copy QR codes, colors, and text to the clipboard.
• scripting / activeTab – used by the Screen Ruler tool to inject a measurement overlay onto the current page. No page content is read or transmitted.
• host_permissions (frankfurter.app) – to fetch exchange rates.

Children's Privacy

WebUtils does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The extension contains no age-restricted content.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
